So, practically the week after I got my new car, my boss calls me, asking if I'm ready to move to Austin. Turns out that the higher ups had decided to close the Mississippi Development Center for the company, thus giving us all the option of moving to Austin (or leaving the company).

I moved to Austin on Feb 7th. Per usual moving goings-on, I slept on the floor for a few days until my things came in. I went shopping that weekend and the weekend after that for some furniture and house supplies, since I never ~really~ had my own. Got a fairly large computer desk from IKEA, which has so far been pretty awesome. Also got a ton of kitchen supplies, which has gotten me in the mood to actually cook (wtf). I've only cooked a few meals since, but I plan on getting more into that.

I've been going to a few social things with a group of people I met over the last year through a coworker. I've spent some time with them here and there; a little guys-only downtown 'action', some Shuffleboard (the table-top variety), movies and potluck. Overall, it's a pretty cool crew, albeit a lot less into most of the 'nerdy' things than I've been accustomed to.

Over this past weekend, I was wandering around Best Buy (why not Frys?) looking at TVs when I noticed a pretty good Sony Bravia model that was marked down $1k. After some deliberation, I bought it and a decent TV stand. So far, it's been serving me well.

On the sadder side...Collapse )

"Well, look, I am happy if this ends up being a referendum on what's going to be good for blue collar workers," Obama said. "I'll put my guy, Joe Biden, up against anybody when it comes to fighting on behalf of those families, because he's been there. He comes out of Scranton, Pennsylvania. He's been fightin' for those folks ever since he got into the Senate. And he hasn't stopped. And he hasn't forgotten where he's come from." (link)

note the bold :o

I dunno if I agree with the order, but they are some decent intros

Thanks to the tornados today, I had an interview while wearing this shirt: http://www.threadless.com/product/456/Rock_Out_With_Your_Cock_Out xD

I was on my way out of the bakery, heading home to change for the interview with Dynetics, when the people working there announced the tornados and directed everyone to the back of the bakery, aka: the underground tunnel entrance. I got a few pics of clark, jason, and some random crap on my phone. After we were let out, it was pretty much time for me to be at my interview, so I went straight there. The interviewer understood my situation, and it went pretty well I guess (for being interviewed by someone who had no idea what you'd be doing)

BTW, I didn't know until this past week that Huntsville was such a good place for engineers to find jobs. Tons of good places to work, the land value is pretty decent, and it seems like an overall good place to live.
